The story of Erick Rogath
An Inspirational Journey: From the Streets to Secondary School
When life at home became unbearable after his parents separated, young Erick Rogath from Machame, Kilimanjaro, made the difficult decision to run away. His mother, a small-scale farmer, worked tirelessly to provide for the family, but food shortages and hardship drove Erick to the streets of Moshi, where survival was a daily struggle.
Everything changed on 16th January 2021, when Watoto Foundation Tanzania rescued Erick and welcomed him into the Centre. For three years, he flourished—embracing education, discipline, and skills for a brighter future. He later joined Kilacha College of Agriculture and Livestock Keeping for a year of training, equipping him with valuable vocational knowledge.
In 2024, while seeking employment at Fides Tanzania Ltd, Erick’s life took yet another remarkable turn. During an application interview it became clear that Erick was only 17 years old and too young to be employed. More importantly, Erick was deeply motivated to continue his studies. Moved by his determination, the managing director made a life-changing decision for Erick Rogath: they offered to sponsor his education.
Today, Erick is happily enrolled at Olaleni Secondary School, full of hope, joy, and renewed purpose. His journey reminds us that with support, every child can rewrite their story—transforming despair into opportunity, and dreams into reality.
Erick’s success is possible because of people like you — our donors and friends — who believe in giving children a second chance. Together, we are not just changing lives, we are building brighter futures.
